Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the long-term success rate and various factors associated with success of osseointegration dental implnats.

Patients and Methods: 181 osseointegrated dental implants that had been inserted from 2002 to 2008 were evaluated in relation to failure type, sex & age of patients, position of implant, diameter & length of implant, additional surgical technique and implant system & surface characteristics.

Result: The total success rate of implants was 88.63%. Success rate associated with sex and age, implant site, implant diameter and implant system & surface did not show any significant differences.(p>0.05), but success rate associated with implant length and additional surgical technique were statistically significant different. According to implant length, success rate was 66.67% in the case of 9.0mm less, 90.4% in the case of 15mm more (p<0.05). According to additional surgical technique, the implant case which GBR ,sinus lift, and veneer buccal bone graft were performed with, were the success rate of 82.11%, 76.47%, and 96.61%(p<0.05) respectively.

Conclusion: This study showed intimate relationship between implant length & bone graft technique and success rate.
